Art Exhibition: Static Fluid

Join us this Friday evening, July 14th from 7-10pm, as artist Ben Seng shares his insight into the mechanics of vision and illusion in his solo exhibition STATIC FLUID. Beginning Weaving Workshop

Students will learn how to warp a loom and the following weaving techniques: tabby, rya, dovetail and soumak. Tips for making shapes and circles also will be discussed.
You will be provided a wooden dowel and learn how to take your completed weaving off the loom and hang it.

Eco-conscious Handmade Journal Workshop

Description: Inspiration dweller Yehjin of As We Dwell and LA based artist Ashley Payne host their first eco-concious journal making workshop. Learn how to re-use, re-purpose and reduce waste by transforming unwanted trash into a beautifully minimal handmade journal.

This will be a two part journal making workshop. The first half will be lead by Yehjin, as she guides the group on how to structure a beautifully minimal handmade journal. Once you have created your first notebook, the second half of the workshop will be lead by artist Ashley Payne where you will learn how to customize and design your own with a more freestyle approach. No previous binding experience necessary. All materials will be provided and each participant will take home their own journals to use and enjoy! Click here to sign up

During the workshop we will learn:

  • The basic tools of bookmaking
  • How to do a “long stitch” binding. (This binding also has the added benefit of being able to lie flat, which makes it an ideal structure for a journal or sketchbook)
  • Create a wrap-around cardboard cover with writing/drawing utensil insert (5.5 x 3.75)
  • Use a ruler to tear rolls of packing paper to create signatures (inner pages of a booklet)

Dwelling in the City: Part 1

It's Good Friday and we want to love on our homeless community through our own creative expression. We will meet at As We Dwell before we walk over to our neighbors. Our purpose will be to simply meet one person, hear their story, and bless them with a creative artwork. We are looking for love ambassadors who enjoy listening to stories and/or want to share their artistic talent.

We will walk over as a group and break into smaller groups as soon as we get situated. The small groups will have at least one artist and one person who will engage in conversation. Our whole group will remain in close vacinity of one another. If you're interested in joining, we ask each person to bring whatever you are able to contribute. Here are the following things we are asking for:
1. notebook/journal
2. writing supply
3. snacks to share
4. artists: Bring whatever art material that would be easy for you to work with on the street.
